Meeting Minutes

October 17, 2012

Present: Louise Dustrude, Peter Morrison, Eileen Drath, Bill Severson, Theresa Simendinger, Kyle Loring, Mike Lazzari, Dave Zeretzke, David Harsh, Howie Rosenfeld

Volunteer hours since previous meeting: 55 (including 25 hours reported by Sue Buettell for Roche Harbor Trails)

Discussion:

• Eileen Drath and Mike Lazzari shared tales of adventure at Artist’s Point and Maple Valley, respectively;

• Refining plans for Washington trails conference – Dave Zeretzke and Bill Severson will deliver presentation of Trails Committee activities to conference;

• Whether to lobby to host conference in 2016:

o Dave Z. and Bill S. stated that they would ask the Vancouver hosts of the 2012 conference about what hosting entails;

o Dave Z. suggested putting group’s energy into the next Transportation Plan;

o The group decided to invite Liz Illg to discuss this idea at a future meeting;

• Upcoming events:

o Island Rec trail hike at Deception Pass on 10/29/12

o Know Your Island Walk at San Juan County Park, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., 10/27/12

• Agreed to pay for 2013 web hosting before the end of 2012;

• Mapping new trails – group agreed with Mike L.’s suggestion to engage Tim Dustrude to digitize GPS tracks from hikers into maps that can be posted to the Trails Committee website;

• Equestrians in National Park – Theresa S. mentioned that recent efforts with the National Park have resulted in possibly five trails officially available for equestrian use;

• Cattle Point Trail – Dave Z. reported that the group may be getting closer to finalizing a license to use Fairway Drive to connect the Cattle Point end of the trail with the Airport Trail;

• Louise D. related a report from David Dehlendorf of a recent smashed window and purse theft at Jakle’s Lagoon.
