Call to Order:

The regular meeting was called to order by Chairperson Bill Severson at 5pm. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as circulated by email.

Old Business:

1. County Trails Meeting: The joint trail meetings in April and May came up with a list of 10 priority trails on San Juan, Lopez, and Orcas islands to present to Public Works in June. They will meet quarterly with Public Works to re-evaluate and review progress. The priorities of the joint trail groups are: how to best access resources ( Right of Way technical information to help make planning more efficient, and access to volunteers, public input process, and smaller stakeholder workgroups that would benefit Public Works); strategy to find and secure funding for non-motorized projects with grants, increase the percentage of budget allocated to non-motorized projects; policies- review, discuss, refine how to balance federal, state and local trail standards to best fit in our area and adopt a “complete streets” policy for San Juan County.

2. Cattle Point Walk: Interest was expressed to organize a walk from Friday Harbor to American Camp. It was agreed that we would wait to see if grant for trail signage is approved and that the trail is closer to completion.

3. Bike Path Sub-Committee: The bike committee participated in the Children’s Festival and had a good turnout. We discussed moving the bike committee back into the general Trails meeting.

4. Know your Island Walk: Eileen Drath reported that we had 30 walkers at April’s event, including 9 new people. May’s walk will be at the Courthouse with Sandy Strelou and ending at the Historical Museum with Kevin Loftus. All are welcome!

5. Booth at the Fair? Discussed was to again have a booth at the County Fair. Bill will contact Alice Hurd, and any volunteers please get in touch with Bill Severson.
